Koumba Diabaté (Our Flag Means Death’s Samba Schutte), by far the Original who’s kindest to Carol and most understanding of her position, has been a window into another perspective on the events of Pluribus: Where Carol is frightened, angry, and focused on fighting the hivemind, Mr. Diabaté has embraced the fantasy of being able to go anywhere and do anything, thanks to the Others’ desire to please the Originals and keep them happy. In episode 6, “HDP,” his fantasies extended to a big James Bond moment that looks like it was a blast to film. Polygon reached out to Schutte to discuss that scene, and learned some surprising things about what went into it and how he prepared for it — including drinking his very first martini.
