Masayuki Oki is a photographer from Tokyo who has a unique beat: snapping photos of stray cats all over the city. His adventure started in 2013 when he stumbled upon a cat in a park and couldn’t resist capturing its moments. Despite not picking up a camera until he was 30 and initially not being very good at it, Oki found joy in photography, especially when it involved cats. He’s been in love with cats since he was a kid but couldn’t have one due to his family’s situation, so he pours that affection into his photos instead.
Masayuki’s work focuses on showing off the personalities of these street cats, from their lazy naps to their curious stares. He believes every cat has its own story and tries to tell it through his lens. For the artist, photographing cats isn’t just about getting a cute shot; it’s about understanding them and sharing a bit of their world with everyone else.
Just like last time, Bored Panda reached out to Masayuki Oki, a Tokyo-based photographer with a unique focus: capturing the everyday lives and diverse personalities of the city’s stray cats.
Oki was captivated by the adaptive behavior of cats, especially their tactics to obtain food, which mirrored some of his own life’s challenges. He remarked, “Before starting cat photography, I didn’t know that cats go all out to charm their way into getting food. When I saw this behavior, even the proudest cats would act affectionately to achieve their goal. At that time, I was a corporate employee and not a very affable person. My work wasn’t going well, so I tried to apply the friendliness I learned from cats to improve it. Although it was too late to see any improvement, I learned it was an important lesson for me.”
Despite the challenges posed by the declining stray cat population in Tokyo, Oki finds joy in every cat he meets. He shared, “I consider it lucky whenever I encounter a cat, so I’ve never felt any difficulty in photographing them. Even if I don’t get a good shot, I’m happy just to know that the cat is healthy. However, the number of cats in Tokyo is gradually decreasing due to TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) efforts. There are more days when I don’t encounter any cats. As a result, I have started going to cat islands for photography.”
Masayuki acknowledges the impact of other photographers on his work while humorously considering cats as his primary instructors. “I learned the philosophy of photography from Masato Terauchi, a Japanese photographer famous for his pictures of Mount Fuji. Although I am self-taught in cat photography, sometimes I feel as if the cats are telling me to capture the moment, making them my photography teachers. Personally, I also love the photos by Henri Cartier-Bresson.”
The photographer also expressed a deep desire to further understand and bond with cats, envisioning a world where he could communicate more directly with them. “The world of cats that I see is very limited, and I believe there is still much about their world that I don’t know. I don’t know what kind of moments those would be, but being considered a friend by a cat and being able to talk with them would be the most surprising and joyful experience.”
Reflecting on his decade-long journey, Masayuki remains committed to spreading happiness through his photography. “I’ve been photographing cats for 10 years now. I’ve always hoped that my cat photos would bring happiness to people around the world, and I approach my photography with that belief. It might sound laughable, but my feelings about this haven’t changed. So, if I could hold a photo exhibition somewhere in the world and publish a photo book that brings happiness to someone, that would be great. I have an exhibition in Taipei in March, and I’ve received an offer to create a notebook with someone from Chile. I believe my dreams are gradually taking shape. Also, I hope to be able to photograph cats somewhere in the world.”
Nothing brightens up my day more than seeing my adorable cat curl up in my lap for a nap or run to the door to greet me when I get home from work. He might be a bit demanding when he’s hungry, and his teeth can be a little too sharp at times. But I wouldn’t trade that little guy for the world.
Adopting an animal into your family can simultaneously change your life and theirs. We all need love and companionship, even furry little creatures, and knowing that you saved a precious animal from a life in a cage is a great feeling. Below, you’ll find photos of some of the sweetest animals who have recently been adopted. These cuties have finally found their fur-ever homes, and they couldn’t be happier. Keep reading to find a conversation with Ivanka Patterson of Every Dog Matters EU, and be sure to upvote the pics that inspire you to adopt not shop!
To learn more about what it’s like to adopt a loving animal into your family, we reached out to Ivanka Patterson, director of Every Dog Matters EU. Ivanka was kind enough to have a chat with Bored Panda and explain why it’s so important to adopt rather than shop our pets.
“A lot of dogs from breeders come from illegal puppy mills where the dogs and puppies are living in very poor conditions,” Ivanka shared. “Not knowing the origins of your bought pups hides the huge risk of getting an overbred pup which will have genetic health issues and a shorter life span.”

“Shopping instead of adopting keeps this ugly business alive,” Ivanka continued. “The pros of adopting a dog are – you know the story and the health state of the dog you are adopting; you are giving a chance to an animal that, more often than not has not been treated well in life, to discover what real love and home mean; mixed breeds are much healthier.”
And when it comes to the benefits we can receive from adopting dogs, Ivanka says, “We believe there is a hidden superhero in each one of us. By adopting a rescue animal, this superhero comes to life, and the feeling of worthiness within oneself greatly improves one’s self-esteem.”

#5 Please Don’t Overlook The Older Cats When Adopting
He found his home with me 2 hours ago. He’s an older cat who’s owners fell ill & could no longer care for him. When the volunteer told me he’s been there a long time & that they don’t get many calls about him, I knew I had to give him his forever home
“It has been scientifically proven that adopting a pet from a shelter makes people become more compassionate and responsible,” Ivanka added. “It has physical benefits as well, like spending time with one’s adopted animal normalizes blood pressure, reduces cortisol and helps overcome mental disorders like depression. And last but not least, all of the above makes us better people.”

Unfortunately, not everyone understands how lovable and amazing rescue animals can be. So Ivanka wanted to set some of the common misconceptions about rescue dogs straight. First, she addressed the idea that an animal from a shelter will be aggressive and untrainable. “So not true. A dog’s behavior depends greatly on the conditions we put the dog in and on the way we interact with it,” Ivanka shared.
“Dogs need between 3 to 6 months in order to adjust to their new home. During this time the adopter MUST give the animal its space, be patient with it, and respect the dog’s willingness for privacy,” the expert says. “Having realistic expectations and patience is the key for a happy dog-human relationship.”
#10 My Dad’s Dog Adopted An Orange Boy
Tigger, showed up a few days before Christmas on my folks’ porch. Folks thought he might be a nearby farm cat, but he didn’t leave after a day and a half. Cruz, the dog, refused to eat his dinner in the second day and kept whining at the door. He didn’t go to his bowl till Tigger was let in. He then waited for Tigger to eat his full of his food before he finally ate. They’re now absolute best bros

Some people also assume that if they don’t get their dog as a puppy, it won’t be able to bond with them or be obedient. “Adopting a puppy is a lot of fun, but also a huge blank canvas one needs to put a lot of work into it,” Ivanka says. “Adopting an adult or senior dog has a lot of benefits, like the dog won’t go through the whole chewing on everything phase. It will [also] know super quickly that pottying is done only outside unless stressed or ill; there is no adult dog that likes to do their business where they live.”
A neighbor said that his ex owner lives on our street and had kicked him out years ago, and he stayed wandering around on our street for years, sleeping under cars. I only began to notice him this last year. I thought he belonged to someone because he had a collar on.
He started coming up to us when we’d take our dog for a walk and he’d be the most loving and friendly cat. When I started petting him I felt the dirt on his fur and that’s when I realized he wasn’t being taken care of. He started coming to our door for food and started sleeping on our doorstep. Within a few days we took him to the vet, got him a check up and vaccines (vet says he’s 5-6yrs), bought him toys, bowls for food and water, litter box, a soft bed (even though he sleeps on our bed), and we ripped the dirty collar off him, gave him a shower.
He loves to cuddle. He used to be so skinny, now he never misses a meal and comes to the kitchen and waits.
“And most important of all – you will already know the character of the dog and what to expect from it,” Ivanka continued. “Choosing a dog whose temperament fits the adopter’s energy and lifestyle is the most important part of the adoption for it to be a happy one for all sides. Adult and senior dogs have no problems emotionally bonding with their owner, just the opposite. They understand very well that they are given a chance in life, and there is no animal more grateful than the adopted one.”

Ivanka also says that families shouldn’t feel pressured into getting a dog just because their children asked for one. “Dogs are not toys and should never be treated as such,” she says. “Having your child grow up with an animal is simply amazing, as it teaches the kids compassion, responsibility, true friendship and so much more.”
“If an adult wants to adopt a dog so their kid grows up with it, they must know going into the whole process that no matter what, the dog will be the parents’ responsibility! Dogs are not gifts, and one should never gift a pet to someone, as usually these gifts end up in shelters or on the street,” Ivanka says. “Have in mind that a mature dog has the emotional and intellectual capacity of a 2.5 year old kid. Would you treat a child this age poorly?”
#19 Adopted These Two Brothers At 15 Years Old
They are brothers, lovers, and fighters all rolled in to one.
As far as what prospective adopters should know before bringing a dog home, Ivanka says, “Before everything, the dog is a responsibility,” she told Bored Panda. “An adopter should really consider if in their current lifestyle there is room for a pet. And if yes, what exactly having one will entail.”
“And once again, patience,” Ivanka added. “A lot of people think the dog will immediately love their new life the moment it steps into their new home. That the dog will immediately trust their adopter and will bond and start playing from the get go. Would you immediately trust a stranger?”

#24 Adopted Our Very First Cat Last Weekend. I Was Worried We’d Get A Non-Friendly Cat Who Was Very Standoffish But She’s An Angel. Is Interested With Anything, Wants To Be Cradled Like A Baby, Vibrates All The Time
“If you have decided to adopt a dog, really think it through, and choose a dog with a temperament and character that will best fit your lifestyle in order to have a true best friend,” Ivanka says. “Have realistic expectations from your adopted dog, be patient with it, and show it that it can trust you 100%. Then, and only then, will you really have a true, joyful, obedient and forever four-legged best friend. And trust me, every single effort is so worth it!”

#32 Adopted Two “Undesirable Cats” At The Animal Shelter- A Very Scared Feral Kitten (Still Trying To Get A Good Face Pic) And The Fattest Cat In The Building
His name was Mercury but I call him Fred. He is only 5 months old and he’s huge I think. It’s only day one but I’ve never met a cat like Fred. He wants to be directly near me and I’ve never met a cat who didn’t eventually get sick of pets and want some space from you. I love Fred already. Also Fred is really vocal and I think that’s neat.
The agency we adopted him from thought he was part Catahoula Leopard dog but others have disagreed. He sounds like Chewbacca and also has the shrillest whine (scream) I’ve ever heard a dog make.
Having a pet, unfortunately, isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Sometimes it’s a true test of patience when they chew up furniture or decide to strike up a serenade in the middle of the night. In those moments, we suggest taking a deep breath and firing up a list of memes that just might be the best therapy for fur-induced chaos.
Today, we’ve prepared one featuring cats, with serious potential to turn your day right around. To find it, all you have to do is scroll down!
While you’re at it, make sure to check out a conversation with certified feline behavior consultant Heather Alvey and cat behavior consultant Molly Kelsey, who kindly agreed to talk about quirky cat behaviors and how to keep felines well-behaved and happy.
Cat behavior experts tell Bored Pandathat they’ve loved cats from a very young age. But what pushed them to turn their passion into a career was seeing felines and their owners in need of help.
“I’ve always loved cats. Growing up as an only child, my cats were my closest companions,” shared certified feline behavior consultant Heather Alvey.
“I initially worked in aviation, but after 9/11, the industry became unstable, and I experienced several layoffs. Before my final layoff, I had started developing a cat-only pet-sitting business as a side project.
When I lost my job, I decided to give it a try full-time. Fortunately, the business took off right away—cat owners appreciated finding a sitter who focused exclusively on cats. Within six months, I was earning enough to support myself, and within a year, I hired my first employee.”
After running her cat-sitting business for 14 years, Alvey discovered the field of feline behavior, and it immediately resonated with her.
“Over the years, I had seen cats surrendered or euthanized for behavioral issues—often after a baby arrived—and I knew those cats were simply reacting to stress or change in their environment. I just didn’t yet have the tools to help. That realization led me to pursue a certification in cat behavior and ultimately start my current business, Felidae Behavior Consulting.”
Similarly, cat behavior consultant Molly Kelsey also grew up with cats.
“My love of cats was fostered from a very young age, my parents were gifted two kittens at my baby shower, who I grew up alongside,” she shares.
“Before I became a feline behavior consultant, I was a veterinary nurse and came across countless cats and their owners who needed behavioral help, but at the time didn’t know where to turn to. I found there were not too many people out there with the skills to help these people and their cats, so I thought, Why not me?”
Having grown up with cats, these feline experts have probably seen every possible cat behavior. So we were curious to know about their favorite ones.
“I love all the quirky, individual preferences and behaviors that cats display,” Alvey says. “Each cat is truly unique, and those little peculiarities highlight just how distinct their personalities are. That individuality is one of my favorite things about working with them.”
Meanwhile, Kelsey adores when felines’ tails quiver like an animated exclamation point.
“Depending on the context, it can mean they are excited, greeting someone, focused, anticipatory, or frustrated. We also sometimes see this when they are urine marking, often for territorial purposes,” she explains.
These are just a few behaviors that are typical of cats. But there are many more that are unique to them that first-time cat owners might not be aware of.
“They are obligate carnivores and tend to drink a lot less water for their body size compared to other animals (which is why encouraging water intake is very important),” says Kelsey.
“People often tell me they had no idea that their cats require small, frequent meals vs. one or two big meals a day to mimic their wild counterparts. Most appear to come ‘pre-programmed’ to use a litter box, versus dogs, who require toilet training. Being both a prey and predator species, cats are risk-averse and can take some time to get used to changes that may seem small to others,” she listed further.
Something else that people should know before getting a cat is that they aren’t low-maintenance, Alvey notes.
“There are a lot of myths about cats, but one that really frustrates me is the idea that they’re aloof or low-maintenance. While some cats may be more independent, most form strong, loving bonds with their people. Compared to dogs, cats might seem low-maintenance because they don’t need walks, but they have their own species-specific needs. When those needs aren’t met, behavioral issues often follow.”
So to help owners keep their kitties happy, healthy, and well-behaved, experts kindly agreed to share their top tips. Kelsey suggests doing the following:
Adequately socialize them as kittens so they are better prepared for things like strangers of all types, car rides, and vet visits.
Be proactive with their healthcare, monitor their habits and behavior. These can provide clues if something is amiss.
Respect their personal space and boundaries, they are sentient beings and should be treated as such.
Stimulate their mind and body every day with enriching activities, a bored cat is a sad cat.
Alvey once more emphasizes the importance of regular veterinary visits and enrichment for cats.
“Cats are experts at hiding pain or illness, so you might not realize anything is wrong until they’re very sick. On the emotional side, enrichment is non-negotiable. Think about all your cat’s senses and look for ways to give them new and interesting experiences. I always say, ‘A busy, tired cat is a well-behaved cat.'”
If you’re not a cat person, you might be hesitant to get one. They’ve been known to scratch, bite, knock vases off shelves, leave clumps of their hair all over the house and run around like their tails are on fire around 3am. But they’re also amazing personal heaters that will lay on your lap looking angelic, great listeners to talk to, provide endless entertainment, and their cuteness greatly outweighs all of the hassles of having these little creatures around.
So if you need to be convinced why you should have a kitty, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve gathered some of the most adorable and hilarious photos from Why You Should Have A Cat on X down below, and I have to say, these photos make a pretty convincing argument. Keep reading to find a conversation with cat lover Cathrine, who runs Bionic Basil & The B Team, and be sure to upvote the pics that make you want to adopt a kitty (or another one!).
To hear more about why it’s so wonderful to have a cat, we reached out to cat lover Cathrine, who runs the Bionic Basil & The B Team blog. Cathrine was kind enough to share her top four reasons for having kitties, the first of which being that they’re super low-maintenance.
“Unlike dogs, they don’t need to be walked numerous times a day. Cats are also independent creatures who can keep themselves entertained for hours,” Cathrine explained. “But don’t let that lull you into the mindset that you can leave them alone for vastly extended periods of time,” she added.
Cathrine also says cats make amazing companions. “[They] have affectionate and playful personalities. They can provide comfort and a sense of companionship, especially for those who live alone,” she shared. “There’s nothing better than a kitty cuddle on a cold dark night, after a crappy day at work!”
Cathrine also says having cats can be great for your mental health. “Some studies have shown that petting a cat can help reduce stress and anxiety. Having a cat as a pet can also help alleviate symptoms of depression,” she noted. “Cats purr at frequencies that can help to relax and calm you. They are such multi-talented little furballs!”
Finally, Cathrine noted that they can be absolutely hilarious! “Cats are renowned for their fun and playful antics, and can provide endless entertainment for their owners,” she shared. “Cats are pawesome pets for so many reasons. If you’re looking for a furry friend who will bring endless joy, fun and companionship to your life, a cat might just be the purrfect fit for you!”
While cats can make furbulous pets for many people, Cathrine does acknowledge that they’re not the best fit for everyone. “For example, if someone is allergic to cats, it’s just not going to work. Additionally, if someone is not able to provide the necessary attention and care that a cat requires, then it may not be the best idea to adopt one as a pet,” she told Bored Panda.
“It’s crucial to consider whether or not a person can adequately support a cat financially, as the bills can soon mount up for food, litter, and veterinary care, plus health checks including yearly boosters, and worming/flea treatments,” Cathrine added.
“Pet insurance is also getting expensive, and the older the kitty becomes, the more expensive the insurance premiums are,” Cathrine went on to note. “I’ve personally found that some insurance companies even start to limit or completely refuse to pay for treatments as your kitty gets older. In which case, a deep pocket can be required as veterinary services aren’t cheap.”
It’s also wise to consider where you live before bringing a cat home. “For instance, if you live near busy roads,” Cathrine says. “In that scenario, I would never let my kitty be a free-roaming indoor/outdoor cat. They would have to live permanently indoors unless, a) I built a catio – if the property allowed, or b) I trained him or her to wear a harness.”
“However, it’s important to note that some cats may not be successfully trained to wear a harness, so that is another factor to consider,” the cat expert continued. “Quality of life for all parties is paramount to having a happy and loving relationship with your cat. Ultimately, the decision to adopt a cat should be made after careful consideration and research to ensure that it’s the right choice for both the person and the animal.”
We also asked Cathrine to share about some of the moments when she realizes how great it is to have cats. “When one of your cats curls up on your lap for a snuggle and a cuddle, or when they playfully chase a toy around the house, or when they greet you at the door after a long day,” she says.
“At BBHQ, I am greeted by six cute kitties everyday when I get home from work, and I couldn’t ever imagine a life without a furry welcoming committee! Cats bring immense joy and comfort to their owners’ lives, which explains why they are beloved pets,” Cathrine shared. “That’s why my husband and I have six – one is simply not enough!”
We were also curious what Cathrine’s kitties, Bionic Basil & The B Team, might say to humans to convince them to adopt cats. “Well, if cats could talk, they would probably say that humans should have cats because they make great companions who can provide endless entertainment and unconditional love,” she shared.
“Plus, they would say, ‘We are independent creatures who can take care of ourselves and keep ourselves entertained, but we also love to cuddle and play with our humans. We are natural hunters who can help keep your home free of pests should that be required, and we have a calming effect on our humans that can help reduce stress and anxiety.’ They would also add, ‘We are amazing pets who can bring joy and companionship to the lives of our humans, and we are definitely worth considering as a furry friend.'”
“Out of all the pets or animals you can choose to share your life with, (and I’ve had many including horses, donkeys, dogs, cows, bunnies, and chickens) cats are my number one choice,” Cathrine says. “And one thing I know for certain is that there will always be cats at BBHQ. Life wouldn’t be the same without The B Team aka The Furry Welcoming Committee!”

Have you been convinced that you need a (or another) cat, pandas? Well, if you haven’t, you haven’t reached the end of the list yet! Keep upvoting the pics you find particularly adorable, and then if you’re interested in even more reasons why your household might need a kitty running around, you can find Bored Panda’s last article featuring the same page right here!
As someone who grew up with dogs, I can definitely attest to the fact that having cute and cuddly animals in your home just makes it feel more like, well, home! There’s always a wagging tail to greet you when you get home (or in the case of my cat, a demanding meow telling me off for leaving him alone), and there’s always someone to snuggle up with at bedtime.
And if you’re in need of an animal for your home, I strongly urge you to look in shelters and rescues rather than checking out breeders. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, about 6.3 million domesticated animals find their way into shelters in the United States every single year. These little creatures would love to be adopted into loving homes, and taking them in can literally save their lives.
To find out more about why it’s so important to adopt rather than shop when getting a new pet, for a previous Bored Panda article, we reached out to Chair of Almost Home Dog Rescue, Alex. Alex was kind enough to have a chat with us and shared that there’s been a crisis in animal rescues in the UK since the pandemic.
“Breeders are breeding faster than we can rehome. Thousands of healthy, non challenging dogs are euthanized weekly in the UK, simply because there is nowhere for them to go,” Alex noted.
#7 Was Never A Cat Person Aaaaand I Became A Cat Dad
One reason why some people might be hesitant to adopt is the fact that many of these animals have experienced trauma, and they might not seem incredibly friendly right off the bat. But Alex assures readers that she has witnessed animals undergo incredible transformations after being adopted into loving homes. “There have been many stories of where a timid, challenging or abused dog has completely transformed in the right supportive environment,” she previously told Bored Panda.

As far as what prospective owners should understand before deciding to adopt, Alex says, “[Almost Home] supports by giving any potential adopters a pre-adoption checklist – asking them to cover all the points as a family. Everyone in the home needs to be committed to the dog for the rest of its life!”

“[Almost Home] offers support to the family for the rest of [their dog’s] life too,” Alex says. “Finances are a big one, and what changes people expect in their lives over the next 10 years – all that should be considered.”
“We ensure all our dogs are neutered before they are adopted,” she added. “We strongly recommend this for behavioral reasons as well as medical.
And while some people may believe misconceptions about rescue or shelter dogs, Alex wants readers to understand that anything they’ve been through was not the animal’s fault. “A rescued dog has simply been let down by humans!” she shared.
#19 I Rescued The Tattooed Cartel Cat That Was Living In A Mexican Prison
Having a pet might seem like a huge burden before actually getting one, and I completely understand the hesitation. Before my partner and I decided to go through with adoption, the only things racing around my mind were the downsides. “It will be so expensive,” I thought. And, “That’s way too much responsibility!” And while those are important factors to consider, what I didn’t realize was how deeply in love I would immediately fall with our pets.

The bond between a pet and their owner is so special, and if you’re in a place where you can financially and practically take care of a little creature, I would highly recommend it. Plus, look at how precious the photos on this list are! There will never be a shortage of pets in shelters, so if you’re at a point in your life where you’re ready to expand your family, please remember to adopt not shop!

#28 Adopting These Two Dummies Is The Best Thing That’s Ever Happened To Us
If you imagine spending your sunset years surrounded by stunning nature and with your best friend by your side, you’re not alone!
Japanese photographer Yasuto took a series of heartwarming and wholesome photos of his grandmother and her dog, a Shiba Inu. And in the background—the jaw-droppingly gorgeous landscape that the Land of the Rising Sun is known for.
Scroll down for Yasuto’s amazing photos and upvote your faves. Let us know what you think of them in the comments below. And for all of you feline lovers out there, when you’re done with this article, check out Bored Panda’s post about the Meow Meow Temple in Japan that’s full of cats. Yes, Japan is that awesome.
Photographer Yasuto captured the friendship between his grandmother and her dog during different seasons. So the backdrop is spectacularly vibrant and different in every shot.
The photographer stated on Twitter that he regretted never having the chance to take photos of his grandfather. Which is why he made sure to snap lots of pics of his grandma! Incredibly wholesome, don’t you agree?
For those of you who have always wanted to visit Japan and went starry-eyed at the sight of cherry blossoms in the pics (just like I did), you can find the forecast right here. At the time of writing, the forecast for sakura to bloom in Tokyo was between the 18th and the 26th of March.
And for those of you who couldn’t take your eyes off the Shiba Inu (just like me, again), you’re probably wondering what they’re like to raise.
According to Shiba Shake (who, as their name suggests, are madly in love with these dogs), Shiba Inu are very independent and very clean. In fact, they’re more akin to cattos than doggos!
They’re easy to toilet train. They’re also excellent guard dogs. They’re as graceful as elves. And as energetic as hobbits. Or five-year-olds who ate too much candy. What’s more, Shiba Inu are incredibly bright, learn commands quickly, and have a larger than life personality! If this dog-cat hybrid sounds too perfect, you’re right. Shiba Inu can be very stubborn, a tad manipulative, and can be prone to fits of drama.

This is Quoi (named after a SeQUOIa tree), who made his debut to the social world on Instagram in March of 2020 under the user name @huskyquoi, and yes, I know he is technically not fully brown—he has a little white spot on his chest—but still, how many huskies have you seen that look like him? And yes, he is 100% Siberian Husky and registered with the AKC. Many people think he is part wolf, and though he may pose like a wolf for photos, he is very much a pampered pup! Quoi’s full name is SeQuoi Tenko (Tenko in Japanese means Heavily Fox). He is currently traveling around the lower 48 of the United States with me, his mum, as we search for a new state to call home!
Harman Singh Heer is one of those rare wildlife photographers whose images feel less like photographs and more like encounters with the wild. Growing up in Kenya, he turned the savannah into his backyard and the animals into lifelong companions, capturing their beauty with a patience and respect that shines through every frame. His photos aren’t just technically impressive; they feel alive.
From lions silhouetted against flaming sunsets to birds perched delicately on antlers, each moment he freezes carries emotion, tension and quiet wonder. Following his work is like stepping into a world where nature still rules, where every glance, every shadow, every beam of golden light tells a story. His lens invites us to slow down, breathe, and remember just how extraordinary the natural world truly is.
A little leopard cub, just a few days old, enters the world outside its mother’s den for the first time. Its eyes open ever so slightly — the light, the trees, the birds, the open savannah, all anew. Too small to walk, its mother carries it in her jaws safely to a new den hidden in the nearby rocks. This is life in its most fragile form and what a special thing it truly is. These photographs have been years in the making. I have searched for a moment like this since the day I picked up my first camera in 2012, and it finally manifested this June just passed.
